Anthea was a chronic pain sufferer for years. Tendonitis affected her wrists, elbows, neck and upper back and then the arthritis in her hands was a constant pain. Things started to change After Anthea decided to try out Bikram yoga. When she started it was never about her health issues but more out of curiosity and she never imagined that it would help this. To Anthea’s surprise she was virtually pain free after 8 months of practice. She hasn’t worn her arm braces in 18 months, feels 20 years younger, is healthier and pain free- how yoga has transformed the look of her body is just the bonus. With Bikram yoga having such a positive impact on Anthea’s life she wanted to facilitate this in others, to help them find peace and heal their own body with yoga. Anthea went to teacher training in Spring 2009 and cannot imagine her life without Bikram yoga. Her favourite posture is always changing but it is usually the most challenging posture at that time that comes out on top. Savasana is always a favourite of Anthea’s since the stillness is so challenging but the constant challenge of standing head to knee is also a stand out posture. Anthea’s least favourite posture is camel since it is always a surprise about how and what she will feel. One day it could be joy, the next day it may be dizzy, and the day after that she may want to cry. She finds it a difficult posture to do since she has to allow herself to feel everything and not be afraid of what the posture will give her. Being a new teacher, Anthea believes that she is still searching for and developing her own style. She just hopes to give off a positive energy, keep her class working hard, and finish on time. In the future, Anthea hopes to develop a style that is energetic, encouraging, and calming with a touch of humour to lighten things up. Anthea’s favourite yoga tip is to show up to class, stay present, and have no expectations. There is no greater gift you can give yourself than yoga. When Anthea isn’t practicing, teaching, or going over dialogue she enjoys spending time outside riding her horse Frank and gardening. |
