Candice discovered yoga while traveling in India, where she did yoga everyday on the beach. Upon returning to Canada, she wanted to keep practicing yoga and a friend introduced her to Bikram Yoga. Although nothing like yoga on the beach, Candice immediately fell in love with the practice. She never worked so hard and felt so good at the same time as in a Bikram Yoga class. Candice wanted to expand her knowledge and to find a way to share all the benefits of Bikram yoga with others so she decided to attend teacher training in 2004 to be able to do just that. After teacher training, Candice was going to teach yoga full-time for a few months to build a strong foundation then move into teaching part-time while returning to her corporate sales background. A few months of full-time teaching quickly turned into a few years and Candice never did return to sales. She loved seeing all the improvements in her students and wanted to be able to reach even more people. It was then that Candice decided to open up a Bikram yoga studio in Langley, an area without any nearby studios. She loves the students in Langley and is very thankful for the opportunity to share Bikram yoga with the community. She enjoys knowing all the students in the studio so make sure to say hi and introduce yourself. Bikram yoga has changed every aspect of Candice’s life; it has become her life and changed it for the better. Standing head to knee is a posture that combines every aspect of what Bikram yoga entails and is also Candice’s favourite. You need balance, strength, flexibility, patience and determination to get through this posture. What you learn from this posture can be applied to the rest of the class. Candice’s least favourite posture is rabbit since with a longer torso and shorter legs she finds it difficult to get the right curve in the spine and is just left with some pain. Candice’s classes are all about balance. She has a focus on discipline and dialogue to push her students but is also very encouraging. Her discipline will keep you working hard in class and seeing the benefits afterwards. Candice’s yoga tips are: breathe, have fun, keep smiling, no ego or judgement, push yourself to your edge since you are always stronger than you think you are, and work hard because you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. When she isn’t teaching, practicing, or in the studio, Candice enjoys travelling, shopping, learning new things, reading, trying out new restaurants, and a good poker game. |
