Julie was born in Canada but raised in the United States. She trained and competed as a competitive gymnast then also coach completive gymnastic for a decade in the U.S. Julie was introduced to Bikram yoga after being in a motor vehicle accident with a drunk driver in 2003. She had eight injured vertebra, torn ligaments and tendons, as well as two herniated disks. After a year of extensive rehabilitation, chiropractic work and massage therapy, Julie saw no change in pain and turned to a friend’s suggestion, yoga. She started practicing in 2004 and in just 90 days felts strong, light, and healthy. All of these positive changes led Julie to the first teacher training session held in Hawaii in the Spring of 2007. She cannot get enough of both practicing and teacher. Seeing the improvements in students and the results they see in only a short amount of time is always rewarding. Julie sees Bikram yoga as powerful for both the mind a body, something you won’t understand until you try it. Julie’s favourite class is pranayama breathing since it starts of the class and give your body life. Every fresh deep breath you take in fuel for the rest of day. Her least favourite posture is the final breathing exercise, Khapalbhati in Vajrasana, since it marks the end of the class. As you can see by her favourite posture, Julie sees breathing in class as mist important. Her number one tip is to focus on your breathing and just let go of everything else. In classes with Julie you will find an emphasis on pace and flow of the class and an attention to detail in the posture. She loves her students and wants everyone to get the most out of their class, find better health, and continue with their yoga practice. Outside of yoga Julie enjoys spending time with her husband, playing chess outdoors by the water, climbing, and the occasional road trip. |
