Stephen was born and raised in Hong Kong then came over to Canada in the early 90s. He studied and then worked in the hotel and restaurant management field and never would have guessed that he would become a yoga instructor in a heated room when he was counting frozen chicken breast in a walk-in cooler. In August 2003, Stephen took his first Bikram yoga class and struggled through it just like everyone else but soon fell in love with it after learning how to breathe normally throughout the postures. Stephen decided to attended teacher training in Fall 2005 session so he would be able to help others with their practice as they improve their health and well being. One of Stephen’s favourite postures, the second part of awkward, started out as a challenge but one he realized that he needed to point his knees to the ceiling and come up as high as he could on his toes it quickly became his favourite. His least favourite posture is standing head to knee. He still struggles in this posture just like everyone else. In class, Stephen is very encouraging and supportive with his students. He delivers a clear dialogue with an attention to detail to maximize everyone’s practice. To make class easier and see all the benefits, Stephen’s says to find your natural breath and not treat this like scuba diving – you have to keep breathing and come up for air! In addition to yoga Stephen enjoys cooking, reading, sleeping, as well as cleaning and waxing his car to showroom perfection. |
